What R U OK? can teach us

If you haven’t yet heard of R U OK? the first thing that you need to know is that they are all about suicide prevention. The organisation encourages us to talk about our problems and educates us about how to recognise a person who may be struggling with their mental health, encouraging us to start a supportive conversation with them.  The R U OK website is full of great resources for schools, as well as workplaces and community groups.

Did you know that the latest ABS statistics show that in 2018 (published 2019) that 1/3 of deaths of Australian people in the 15-24 age group was by suicide?

Multiple Touchpoints

Here at Impact Planners we believe that the more exposure we can give to R U OK?’s message, the more educated friends and teachers of those with suicide ideation will be.

Educating bystanders to recognise certain behaviours and act on their concerns by asking :”R U OK?” is  why, last year, we started to offer pages of free R U OK? content to our school planner clients.

One of the schools that took us up on the offer was Gippsland Grammar.

Most recent statistics show that in 2018, 1/3 of deaths of Australian people in the 15-24 age group was by suicide

What kind of school diary content are we talking about?

Here is a brief extract of Gippsland Grammar’s 2020 planner, including how they incorporated their R U OK? content. (Best viewed in fullscreen.)

R U OK Content 2020 Impact Planners

This was the selection of R U OK? content that we offered to our student planner schools for their 2020 planners. You can see the full 2020 R U OK planner content here. 2021 planner content will be similar but updated in line with R U OK?’s branding.

Thanks for reading our thoughts on the R U OK? message and how the school planner can be just another touchpoint for students and staff to be exposed to the R U OK? message of having a conversation.

Our brand Impact Planners, by Woolston Printing has been creating planners for Australian schools for the last 16 years. In 2020 we put almost 200,000 student planners in the hands of children across Australia. In planning their 2021 diaries we would love our schools to take us up on the opportunity of free, limited, R U OK? content for their students.

You can get in touch with us about R U OK?  planner content through the Woolston Printing contact page.
